My Journey Into Lovely Lingerie and Clothing

It all started in the early 70's. Old catalogs from David Jones (similar to Sears) were an inspiration and even back then, men had more interesting clothing than they do today but the beautiful vintage styles of bras, nylon panties and suspender belts were the stars of the show.

I was always attracted to fancy underwear. The sexier the brief, the more I liked it. The real seeds of my lingerie journey started with Penthouse Forums in the late 70's and early 80's. I'm 63 now and those stories of men wearing pantyhose and lingerie painted quite the picture in a young man's mind.

I tried on a pair of mum's pantyhose and was instantly in love, but the guilt was high and it would be another decade before I could get the feeling again. Lingerie.

Catalogs, magazines and all of the advertising material would only make me wonder how good it would feel. I bought my wife, before we were married, cute lingerie that was available at the time. Poor quality by today's standard. She was smaller than me and never a big fan of suspenders and stockings so I would wear it instead but my wife was a huge fan of it.

The late 80's were a great time. Lycra Spandex clothing was everywhere and it looked like it was going to revolutionize the wardrobe. It didn't but I loved it and it became a staple in my wardrobe. Bike shorts and leggings were worn where possible. I still have a large collection and wear them regularly.

We got married in 1989 and each wore cute and sexy lingerie on the day. Things were moving forward. In the winters of the early 90's, I tried long johns. How depressing. I told my wife how horrible they were and she bought me opaque pantyhose to wear under my pants. It was a game changer and hosiery became a normal part of my life.

Here I found like minded people as well as companies specializing in sexy men's undies.

Because Australia is the final frontier as far as the world is concerned, old ways of payments using postal checks and mail in ordering, made buying things overseas more difficult. Today, it's a mix of poor exchange rates and high shipping charges that stifle things. As a result, I went to the lingerie department of department stores.

I had to tread slowly as the old question of my sexuality came into question a couple of times. Women use it as a go to because they are unfamiliar with the make up of men's bodies.

Women seem to have the freedom that men are unlikely in my lifetime to ever get. Based on our clothing choices, we are made of leather. Men are supposed to be as Hollywood and TV made us. However, men are born gentle and parents do all they can to work that out of us.

I was never a sporty person and preferred machines to chasing a ball. But the fact was, I still had to fit into the man box. I hate the man box and prefer the pink veil.

In the hosiery space, women turned their back on them and it was men who kept the mills running yet the big brands will never acknowledge that.

Lingerie companies are vast and numerous. Beautiful things for women to wear yet not that many do. The smaller boutique brands that have arrived in the last few years are happy to promote men wearing them. There is hope.

Clothing has a way of making us feel special. It feels good on the skin and shows off the parts of our bodies we like. Men see this in women and let's face it, if you have great legs, then you will shave them, get some gorgeous hosiery and either short shorts or a flirty skirt and show them off.

One of my dear friends was not just a lover of hosiery but a manufacturer and retailer of men's hosiery. A few years back, I stayed with him and his wife for a few days on my way home from Canada and had my first outing wearing pantyhose with shorts.

After that, I felt less self conscious but the doubt always hangs over you. We are brainwashed into what other people think of us and it only stifles creativity.

Getting more and more nice things to wear took some time. I, like other men, had to tread carefully as our vanilla made partners have been programmed by society to resist change and have been sold a lie about men and what they like. Men like many things and each of them have the ability to send women into a raging tailspin.

The fact I had been wearing nighties for years was never an issue. I had nightshirts when we first met. The skirt was one of the " Men don't wear (insert whatever) " moments. The bras would have to wait a while longer.

It took a long time to get to where I am now. I had a few years where my wife was working interstate and I purchased some skirts, dresses, heels and bras on ebay. Again, my sexuality was again called into question over the skirts. The fact I had been wearing nighties for years was never an issue. I had nightshirts when we first met. The skirt was one of the " Men don't wear (insert whatever) " moments. The bras would have to wait a while longer.

Today, I wear lingerie every day. Be it a bra and panty set or teddy under my dull work wear or coming home, washing off the day and putting on something fun and a dress, it makes life more pleasurable. My wife is much more at ease with my clothing choices. At home dresses and skirts are normal these days and she has quite often purchased them for me.

I think one of the defining moments of her awakening was this year when we went to the Kauai pride parade and a good friend of ours who is gay, praised us for flying our flag and being allies. I have friends and family in the LGBTQI community and will always stand proud with them. This opened her eyes and she can see she has nothing to fear from my clothing choices and now encourages me to wear something I really want to when we are away from the house but does not want me to wear too much outside in the neighbourhood.

We are not freaks or degenerates, if anything, we are more normal than those who don't enjoy lingerie. We have found our happy place and refuse to fit conservative values.

Some consider wearing lingerie and dressing up a kink or fetish. Cross dressing and transvestitism is a way for dull people to stigmatize people who don't like the conservative socially designed male normal clothing choices. We are not freaks or degenerates, if anything, we are more normal than those who don't enjoy lingerie. We have found our happy place and refuse to fit conservative values. It's a way to smooth out our personalities and enjoy what we put against our skin. Based on our anatomy, placing them into soft nylon, silk and satin panties makes more sense for men than women.

I have said for some time that the fashion industry has forgotten men have skin with nerve endings. When you watch the next award night, the women are all dressed in beautiful dresses and creations. The men are all in a tuxedo that makes them all look the same. Basically, they are background noise so as not to upstage the girls.

I will continue to wear my lingerie and clothing with pride. I'll look for opportunities to wear my kilts and skirts in public and at events.

Go to the beach. Skimpy bikinis for women and baggy flattering board shorts for men. One piece long sleeve swimsuits for women makes as much sense for men as well for freedom of movement and sun protection. I will continue to wear my lingerie and clothing with pride. Life is a very short journey and men who don't wish to follow the social script, suffer more than anyone. Women are free to wear what they want but did have to fight to get that freedom. Now pants, jeans, shorts and suits are considered open to all. Men still have the conservative social limits placed on us. Our clothes are devoid of joy. The weight of jeans are twice that of women's. Swimwear has gone backwards. If you wear something that shows the bulge and beauty that is the male genitals, it's like a crime was committed if you wear it.

Men impose the un-written rules around our clothing but in many areas around the world, feel they need to use violence to impose it.
